Hospital talk

Posted in Άνεμοι κ Ύδατα στις 11:01 πμ από perissos

Going to work at 11.30. Not very professional!
I was at the hospital again, where my uncle is having his surgery.
I didn’t actually see my uncle, he was already in the cold room. I mainly went there to see my cousin. By nature he is a worry-for-all guy, so now he has double the reasons to be concerned. Firstly because, hey!, it’s his father! And not least because this colon cancer thing is highly inheritive (is there actually such a word?)
Boy, did he have a grim look on his face this morning! As if someone else had carved the wrinkles on his forehead, too heavy a burden for his shoulders.
They only thing one can offer at times like these is… talk. On any subject. We ended up talking about how difficult it it for a family of 4 (his family) to make ends meet with mortgages. Although the subject was open for a pessimism party, instead he ended up almost smiling.
I remember reading an article in newsweek a loooong time ago on the subject of how the brain works. The resumè is that the mind is like 2 grinder stones, endlessly turning. The only problem is you have to keep feeding it with problems to crunch. If you leave it free to wander, then it will just pick something, anything, and start working and extrapolating on that. That is why you begin being stood up for 10′ by your friend and end up with the grim conclusion that life is not wort living.
Anyways…
Let’s hope the operation goes well and that I don’t get many wrong looks from arriving at work so late 🙂
